Bonnie Brown Hartley, Ph.D.
Bonnie Brown Hartley, Ph.D. Bonnie Brown Hartley, Ph.D., is President of Transition Dynamics Inc., a consulting firm specializing in business family and organizational transitions. Dr. Brown works primarily on planning, communication and relationship management during times of transition in two areas: governance systems within family councils, family offices, family and non-family management teams, boards of directors and advisory councils; and life-long learning maps for developing interests and competencies in business families. She also serves as an executive coach for both senior and next generation members of business families.

As a consultant, Dr. Brown Hartley maintains an active speaking schedule. She gives presentations in English and Spanish

internationally. In the last several years, she has addressed business family audiences in Spain, Denmark, France, Scotland, Ireland, Malaysia, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Belgium and the United States.

Dr. Brown Hartley has written for Families in Business, Family Business Review, Family Business, Nation’s Business, Business Horizons, the International Journal of Bank Marketing, The Family Business Client, Private Wealth Management and On Wall Street among others, and has been interviewed on various PBS documentaries about family business. In 2004 TDI Press published two Fire Drill books for building strength and flexibility in families: Sudden Death and Unexpected Wealth.

Currently, Brown Hartley serves on the Boards of AFHE (Attorneys for Family-Held Enterprise) and a private foundation. She participates in the Psychosocial Dynamics of Family Business (a US national think tank), is a Fellow in the Family Firm Institute, holds their Certificate in Family Business Advising and is a past member of their Board of Directors. Brown Hartley divides her time between Oregon and Florida. Her client base is international.

Michael T. Hartley, CFP, AAMS
Michael T. Hartley, CFP, AAMS Mr. Hartley is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dale K. Ehrhart, Inc. and a manager of Tillman Hartley LLC. He frequently works as part of collegial teams that provide sophisticated estate, tax, and investment planning, as well as family office services. In addition to his executive duties, Mr. Hartley is involved in designing diversified investment portfolios and other sophisticated investment strategies for the diversification of clients’ concentrated equity positions. Prior to joining Dale K. Ehrhart, Inc. as a principal in 1985, Mike worked as a corporate comptroller and director of finance.

Mr. Hartley is a member of the Financial Planning Association, the National Committee on Planned Giving, The Family Firm Institute (FFI), Attorneys for Family Held Enterprises (AFHE), the Family Business Network (FBN), and is actively involved in many civic and charitable organizations in the Venice area. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award from the National YMCA Southern Region.

Mr. Hartley has served as the Chairman of The Venice Endowment, the state of Florida’s largest community foundation fund as is a director of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice. He is a founding member of the Institute of Philanthropy and works with the Sudden Money Institute. He is listed in National Register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals (2001-2002).

Mr. Hartley’s education includes undergraduate degree work at Indiana University School of Business, College for Financial Planning, New York Institute on Family Wealth, and University of Chicago Graduate School of Business executive education on investment portfolio design. He holds the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and AAMS (Accredited Asset Management Specialist) designations as well as licenses including the Series 7 (General Securities), Series 25 (Securities Principal), Series 28 (Financial Operations Principal), Series 63 (Uniform Securities State Law), and Series 65 (Investment Advisor).

Dennis T. Jaffe, Ph.D.
Dennis T. Jaffe, Ph.D. Dr. Jaffe is a professor of organizational systems and psychology at Saybrook University in San Francisco, and an advisor to families about family business, governance, wealth and philanthropy. He is co-author of Working With the Ones You Love: Building a Successful Family Business; Working With Family Businesses: A Guide for Professional Advisors, the forthcoming book, Stewardship of Your Family Enterprise, as well as management books, including Rekindling Commitment, Getting Your Organization to Change and Take this Work and Love It, and more than a hundred management articles. In 2005 he received the Richard Beckhard Award for service to the field from the Family Firm Institute. He received his BA degree in Philosophy, MA in Management, and Ph.D. in sociology, all from Yale University, and is a licensed psychologist.

John W. Gibson, PhD
John W. Gibson, PhD Dr. John Gibson is an experienced counselor, consultant, coach and educator. He has over 35 years experience working in healthcare and academic settings. Dr. Gibson holds degrees from Columbia University and the University of Michigan in psychology, social work, and applied statistics, with a specialization on adult development and family relationships. He is a certified mediator and licensed clinical social worker.

As a counselor and coach, he regularly consults with individuals and families on personal and professional issues, and frequently helps them set up personal safety nets or create care-share teams. Dr. Gibson also conducts national and international training seminars and speaks to corporate and non-profit organizations including the American Association of Retired Persons, Microsoft, Alzheimer's Association, American Heart Association, Paine Webber, and the American Society on Aging. Over the past 30 years, he has spoken on the issues of communication skills, multi-generational family relationships, health, conflict resolution, retirement, aging and multi-generational workforce, eldercare and care giving.

Dr. Gibson has been on the faculty of the University of Washington School of Social Work, been a research faculty member at Columbia University, and has taught classes at New York University and Hunter College. He also has experience in a variety of public and private agencies, and civilian and military hospitals focusing on healthcare, family and counseling issues.

He is the author of five books and more than 20 professional articles. Dr. Gibson is a member of many professional organizations including the National Association of Social Workers, The Gerontological Society of America, Northwest Family Business Alliance, International Coaching Federation, and the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers. He is a certified mediator, individual and family counselor and elder-care consultant.

Currently, he resides in Seattle, Washington.

Byron E. Woodman, Jr.
Byron E. Woodman, Jr. Byron has practiced estate planning and tax law since 1970. He founded Woodman & Eaton, P.C.,an estate planning law firm, in Concord, Massachusetts in 1980. Prior to Woodman & Eaton, Byron was a partner in the Boston law firm of Sherburne, Powers & Needham.

Byron is a founder and Director of Monument Financial Advisors, LLC, a Registered Investment Advisor. Since 1986 Byron has been President and Director of Concord Equity Corporation, a Registered Investment Advisor.

He is a Director of Cambridge Trust Company and serves on the Emerson Hospital Board of Directors. He also served as chairman of the

Concord-Carlisle Scholarship Fund. For six years, Byron was a Trustee of the Fenn School of Concord; and for twelve years he served as President of the Community Agency Corporation.

Prior to his estate and tax practice, Byron was a Captain in the U.S. Army.

Byron is a Fellow of The Institute — The Global Center for Wealth Strategies Planning, and he is a contributing reviewer to Conspectus Current and a co-author of Generations — Planning Your Legacy, and Personal Financial Planning.
